DISCOVER HOPE MINISTRY would like to cordially invite you to their 2021 Blessings Banquet on October 22 from 5 to 8 pm at Community Heights. The banquet will be catered by Z Marie’s Home Cooked Meals & Catering. Keynote speaker is Dave Olson from Heartland Church in Ankeny Iowa. Discover Hope 517 is a faith-based 501(c)3 non-profit Recovery Community Organization (RCO), dedicated to providing recovery and restoration for those struggling with addiction. Discover Hope believes in the power of God’s Word, prayer, and restoration and is a place to find a community to believe in you while you work on your recovery. PHOTOGRAPHERS NEEDED! - LOVE TO TAKE PICTURES? - You don’t have to be a pro - we just need someone with a camera or cell phone who would enjoy taking pictures at church events and gatherings for use on the website and social media. Please email deidre@communityheights.org if you can help.

 

COFFEE & CHAOS - FOR MOMS AND THEIR PRESCHOOL AGE KIDS - Thurs., Oct. 28 from 9-11 a.m. in the Worship Center. Come and go as you can. Hang out with other moms and let the kids play while you have a cup of hot tea or coffee! To be held the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month from 9 to 11 a.m.

 

ALLIANCE YOUTH - SMALL GROUP NIGHT – Wednesday, Oct. 27, MS 6:30-7:45 p.m./HS 7:45-9 p.m.

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD PROCESSING CENTER TRIP – Saturday-Sunday, Dec. 11-12. Our middle school and high school students (ages 13 and up) will travel to the Chicago area to process shoeboxes and then pray for the shipments before they’re sent out. Contact Pastor Trenton to get signed up.

 

TRUNK OR TREAT

WE NEED TRUNKS AND THE TREATS TO GO IN THEM! - Saturday, Oct. 30 - 6 to 8 p.m. at Maytag Park. If you would like to participate in the Newton Parks and Recreation’s Trunk or Treat, please contact Pastor Beau for more details. Candy donations may be left in the blue storage tote in the foyer.

 

THIS MONTH’S 5TH SUNDAY OFFERING - will be collected Sunday, Oct. 31, and will go to Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA).

 

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD

 

ITEMS STILL NEEDED! - There are still some pull tags on the "items needed" board in the Welcome Center. Completed projects and donations, may be left on the OCC table in the Welcome Center. And…good news! We don’t need any more cereal boxes!

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD SHOEBOXES - to take home, pack on your own and return with the $9 donation are now available in the Welcome Center. (OR you can still set a time to come pack at church from Nov 11-15 - see details below)

CHILI AND CINNAMON ROLL SUPPER FUNDRAISER - Wednesday, Oct. 27 from 5 to 7 p.m. for a Free Will donation to benefit OCC. Needed: Donations of a gallon of chili and workers to help with set up, serving, & clean up. Contact Becky Vos at 641-521-1370 if you want to make chili or help out.

 

HELP STILL NEEDED! - The following volunteer listings are flexible to accommodate your schedule (ex. If you want to work in an evening or Saturday) 

Box folders - assemble shoe boxes (possibly Nov.7, 8 or 9) No skill needed, just a willingness to help!

Sorting and set up – Nov. 4-9 - exact times TBD - all the items in storage need to be sorted and distributed to the 6 different packing areas. Sign up and you will be contacted with details. Set up requires a fair amount of physical effort.

Packing supervisors for Wednesday, Nov. 10 - CHAC kids will be packing boxes and we need people to assist with this effort.

Packers – Nov. 11-15 Packing opportunities for families, small groups, Bible study groups, home school coop, teens, neighborhood outing, 4-H club - if you have a group you would like to host at a “packing event” sign up by texting Becky Vos at 641-521-1370 (PRE-ARRANGEMENTS WILL BE NECESSARY)

Box Closers/labelers – Nov. 16 – 18. Come in to help arrange the items in boxes (so the lid closes) checking if essentials have been included. Rubber band, label, and stack.

Clean up – Nov. 16-18 Count leftover inventory, pack, and haul to storeroom (or set aside for stronger backs to help) 

Nov. 21 - Stan and Linda Laverman (regional directors) come to pack boxes into cartons and haul to CRC. Strong help to load the cartons is appreciated. 

 

LEGACY GRANDPARENTS VIDEO-BASED STUDY - Final session of the series. Sunday, Oct. 24 at 4 p.m. in room 103. Please bring a snack to share.

 

WOMEN’S MINISTRIES

Priscilla Shirer “Going Beyond” simulcast – Saturday, Oct. 30 from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Gathering Place. Breakfast and lunch are provided. Early Bird sign-ups are $12 until Oct. 17; after that the cost is $15. Special price for teens - $10.  Scholarships are available. Last day to sign up is Tuesday, Oct. 26.

Service to Church and Community:

Jason Lauterbach would like to recruit a group of men who are willing to serve/help the elderly/disabled/struggling members of our church and the community. Anything from tree cutting, home/auto/appliance repair, moving things, etc. If you are willing to serve, please contact Jason or the church office to get on the contact list.

 

COLLEGE & CAREER FELLOWSHP (CCF) – Every Sunday at 6 p.m. in the Coffee Shop. Dinner is ALWAYS provided!          

                                                                                                                                                        

FREE BOOKS!

FREE COPIES OF THE BOOK GENTLE AND LOWLY – are still available in the foyer. These books were generously provided by Crossway, a not-for-profit Christian ministry that exists solely for the purpose of proclaiming the gospel through publishing and other means. A study guide is available at crossway.org if you would like to use Gentle and Lowly as a small group or personal Bible study.

 

A VARIETY OF BOOKS - are available for free, to whoever wants them!   Located on the table just outside of Room 104 (The prayer room).

 

NEWTON CHRISTIAN SCHOOL ANNUAL BENEFIT DINNER - Friday, Nov. 5 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Community Heights Alliance Church. Enjoy an evening full of fellowship and great food. The school has a goal of raising $35,000. It is very important for guests to RSVP so we can have a meal prepared for them. To RSVP call Newton Christian School at 641-792-1924 or contact Mandy Longacre at 641-521-2704 by Wednesday, Oct. 27.
